The five Rajju groups
Rajju is traditionally treated as one of the most important checks, concerning the strength of the marital bond. This table groups all 27 stars exactly as Pairutham’s matching table does. Nabhi is also called Udara in some tables. Each star belongs to one group here, and every group contains several stars. Matching different star names therefore does not by itself establish whether Rajju is Pass.
| Rajju group | Stars |
|---|---|
| Pada | Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Revati |
| Kati | Bharani, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada |
| Nabhi | Krittika, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada |
| Kantha | Rohini, Ardra, Hasta, Swati, Shravana, Shatabhisha |
| Siro | Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishta |
How Pairutham reads Rajju
Look up both stars and compare their group names. If both stars are in the same Rajju group, Pairutham marks Rajju Caution. Otherwise it marks Rajju Pass. That is the complete rule applied here: it does not add a direction check or a regional exception after comparing the groups. This makes the result easy to reproduce from the published table.
For example, two distinct stars can both belong to Pada. Their names differ, but the shared group produces Caution in Pairutham’s method. Conversely, stars in different groups produce Pass for Rajju even if another porutham needs discussion. Read each check separately so that a Rajju label does not become a substitute for the rest of the comparison.
Regional Rajju conventions
Regional Rajju tables differ. Some add ascending and descending direction; some apply exceptions within the group comparison. Pairutham uses the simple same-group check and does not claim to represent all of those additional practices. A different result can therefore be a difference in method, rather than a mistake in either person’s star name.
When discussing a regional reading, ask the astrologer to identify the two groups, describe any additional direction distinction, and explain whether an exception is being applied. Keeping those steps explicit lets the family understand the reasoning. It also avoids treating a short label from one website as if it contains a complete explanation of another tradition.
The thirteen Vedhai pairs
Vedhai compares the pair of birth stars with a fixed partner table. The thirteen pairs below follow Pairutham’s matching table. Each listed relationship is symmetric: exchanging the partners leaves this check unchanged. No star appears in more than one listed pair, and Chitra has no partner in Pairutham’s table.
| Star | Vedhai partner |
|---|---|
| Ashwini | Jyeshtha |
| Bharani | Anuradha |
| Krittika | Vishakha |
| Rohini | Swati |
| Mrigashira | Dhanishta |
| Ardra | Shravana |
| Punarvasu | Uttara Ashadha |
| Pushya | Purva Ashadha |
| Ashlesha | Mula |
| Magha | Revati |
| Purva Phalguni | Uttara Bhadrapada |
| Uttara Phalguni | Purva Bhadrapada |
| Hasta | Shatabhisha |
How Pairutham reads Vedhai
If the entered stars form one of the listed pairs, Vedhai is Caution. Every other pair is Pass for this check. Read either column as a starting point; the order of the two stars in the table does not assign a role to either person. A Vedhai result is a traditional matching observation to discuss, never a verdict about the relationship.
The table pairs Mrigashira with Dhanishta and leaves Chitra with no Vedhai partner, whereas traditional South Indian panchanga tables often treat Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta (the three Siro Rajju stars) as a mutual three-way Vedhai triad. Because all three belong to Siro Rajju, any pairing among them already triggers a Rajju Caution in Pairutham’s report. Keep that detail in view when comparing a chart that groups the three stars differently.
Why a count alone can miss the question
Many families treat Rajju as essential, often alongside Dinam and Ganam, and may also give Vedhai special attention. Another family may want to review the full chart before interpreting either one. Pairutham’s full report leaves these checks visible instead of converting them into an overall count threshold. You can explain both the result and its rule without assuming that every family gives it the same weight.
If a report has several Pass results and one of these checks is Caution, start with the named component. Confirm the stars, look at the table, and ask which convention your family follows. Then discuss the wider pattern, including other poruthams and the Ashtakoota components. This sequence keeps the conversation specific and gives the couple room to respond thoughtfully.
Prepare for a family discussion
Bring the recorded birth details, the Sanskrit and Tamil star labels, and a note of the group or pair that produced Caution. Ask for an explanation in ordinary language before discussing any ritual decision. A shared reference can reduce confusion, even when the family ultimately chooses to follow a more detailed regional practice. You do not need to turn a table comparison into a prediction about the couple.
Discuss the group and pair behind the label
Bring the two Rajju groups and any Vedhai pairing to your family discussion, then use the main guide to place these checks alongside the wider comparison.
